About Me

I am a high school computer science teacher eager to help people into the 21st century using a unique combination of of educational experiences, creativity and humor coupled with 20+ years' background in computer systems and software.

So, who am I? I am a Geek. They call me the Gadget Girl. I have this love-hate relationship with technology. Most days I love it, but then there are those days were it hates me. I got my first computer in 1984 - Apple IIe. I've had one ever since. Then came the beeper, the satellite phone, the cell phone, the PDA (Palm Pilots and Axim X51v) the iPod, the iPhone 4,  and the iPad 2.

After a slight detour, getting married and having two kids, I returned to college and earned my Bachelors of Arts & Humanities and then worked for several years as Library Educational Technician III. At this time I was very seriously considering going back to school and earning my Masters Degree in Library Sciences but with recently getting divorced with two young kids and school being so far away from my family, I changed paths and earned my Maine teacher certification in English 9-12 and Computer Technology K-12. It was the smartest professional move I've ever made.

Through a unquenchable thirst of geekiness, I have found my calling. Just like an artist sees the design within the raw chunk of granite or the image superimposed on the blank canvas, I just see technology. It's a puzzle that screams to be to be solved, and yet that unknown solution just pops into my head. It's intuitive. It's sometimes rather spooky, too.

In the last several years I have streamed-lined the courses I offer yet although they are not all listed within the program of studies; students are aware that if they want to learn anything "geeky" I am the person to see. Here's a list of the courses I teach and/or have taught:

  • Programming (Visual Basic.NET, C++, JAVA [AP Computer Science])
  • Web Design & Web Game Design (HTML 5, CSS, Javascript)
  • Graphic Design (GIMP, Photoshop)
  • 3D Design & 3D Game Design (Blender)
  • Android Game Design & JAVA Game Design
  • Robotics (VEX, Lego)
  • Digital Multimedia (Final Cut Pro, iMovie, iDVD)
  • Basic Computer Applications (word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation)
  • Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sites, Blogger, Reader)
  • 21st Century Skills

For hobbies I read and read and read, knit & crochet, sew, re-upholster and re-finish furniture, make furniture, design and make custom roman shades, live for the NFL (GO, Patriots!) and play with all geek.
